Netflix is in negotiations to revive the beloved series “Gilmore Girls” with Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel in talks to reprise their roles of Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel as mother-daughter pairing Lorelai and Rory Gilmore.
Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is also onboard the dramedy which is reportedly being conceived as as four 90-minute movies instead of the usual 8-12 episode limited run event series format.
The series launched in 2000 and ran for seven seasons and 153 episodes, though Sherman-Palladino exited out of the final season over a contract dispute – this would see her return and potentially give a proper way to end the story which she didn’t get the chance to do with the series.
Many of the original cast members are in talks to return as well, though Melissa McCarthy is not expected to be one of them. Others like “Supernatural” co-lead Jared Padalecki and “The Good Wife” regular Matt Czuchry have other series commiments which may limit their screen time and/or chances to return.
Production aims to kick off early next year.
