Less than two weeks after its premiere, Netflix has officially announced that “Marvel’s Daredevil” has been renewed for a second season to air in 2016. Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil), Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson ‘Kingpin’ Fisk), Deborah Ann Woll and the other primary cast are all slated to return.
Behind the scenes though there’s been a change with Doug Petrie (“American Horror Story”) and Marco Ramirez (“Sons of Anarchy”) taking over as show runners from Steven S. DeKnight who steered the entire first season. In a statement, DeKnight says:
“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season, I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can’t wait to see what they do with the show moving forward.”
Drew Goddard and Jeph Loeb are also returning as executive producers. Goddard was originally slated as show runner but left in May last year before production began – with DeKnight taking over. Goddard’s presence can still be felt on the show though as he penned the first two episodes of the season and served in the background as executive producer.
The previous season began filming in July last year and premiered in early April this year. No word as yet if the same pattern will be followed, but Netflix tends to stick to that schedule with a variation of only a few weeks at most.
