Netflix Plans “Wet Hot” Prequel Series?

Netflix is reportedly planning a ten episode prequel series to the cult 2001 comedy “Wet Hot American Summer”.

The film’s creators David Wain and Michael Showalter will executive produce the series which hopes to reunite many of the original 30 and 40-something cast members to play high-school-age characters.

The original boasted an impressive cast list including the likes of Paul Rudd, Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, Ken Marino, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Judah Friedlander, H. Jon Benjamin, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce and Michael Ian Black.

The hope is to get as many of them back as possible. As not every character will appear in every episode, the plan is to have each of the actors shoot their scenes in just a few days.

Talk of a sequel and/or prequel have been swirling for a few years but only in movie form, this marks the first time there’s been talk of a small screen return. Universal Pictures is also currently considering an option to come aboard the project.

Set at a fictional Maine camp in 1981 during the last days of summer, the story deals with the romantic liaisons of various counselors ahead of the talent show that closes out the season.
