Netflix Orders A “Bright” Sequel As Reviews Hit

Netflix’s new original blockbuster “Bright” has been screened ahead of its launch tomorrow and reviews paint a pretty terrible picture. The $100 million blockbuster is currently scoring a 32% and a 3.6/10 average rating on Rotten Tomatoes and while some reviews have labelled it amongst the year’s worst, others have at least appreciated it for trying some things.

Despite the critical misgivings, Netflix has confidence in the film. So much so in fact that Bloomberg has posted a report indicating that: “the company has already ordered a sequel with [Will] Smith signed on”. Earlier this week there were quotes from both star Will Smith and director David Ayer about directions a sequel could go – but no suggestion one was a certainty.

Smith and Joel Edgerton str as a human and an orc who are paired up in the LAPD in a magical alternate version of contemporary reality. Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramirez, Ike Barinholtz, Enrique Murciano, Jay Hernandez, Andrea Navedo, Veronica Ngo, Alex Meraz and Margaret Cho co-star.
