Streaming giant Netflix has closed a deal for the international rights to ABC’s new Kiefer Sutherland-led drama series “Designated Survivor”.
As a result, the series is being made available in all countries outside the United States and Canada with episodes going online within a day of their original broadcast in North America.
Sutherland plays a lower-level U.S. Cabinet member who is suddenly appointed President after a catastrophic attack during the State of the Union Address kills everyone above him in the line of succession. The show has scored some of the best reviews of any of the new Fall shows on the five major free-to-air networks this season.
Mykelti Williamson, Natascha McElhone, Maggie Q, Kal Penn, Adan Canto, Italia Ricci and LaMonica Garrett co-star. The pilot episode aired Wednesday night in the U.S. with the first episode already available on the streamer in global markets.
