Netflix Dismisses Staunton In Crown Report

Netflix has dismissed a report in the British press indicating that Oscar-nominated actress Imelda Staunton will replace Oscar-winner Olivia Colman for the final two seasons of the streaming giant’s royal drama “The Crown”.

We know that the long term plan for the series was to run for six seasons, each covering a decade of events, and so the cast is changed out every two seasons to accommodate the ageing up of the characters. Claire Foy played the lead role of Queen Elizabeth II in the first two seasons before Colman took over the past for the third and fourth.

The Daily Mail reported yesterday that Staunton has been signed to take over the role of Elizabeth for the final two seasons, however Netflix has dubbed this report “pure speculation” and says: “we are currently filming season four of The Crown, but have not commissioned any further seasons as yet.”

The series has been shooting its third and fourth seasons back-to-back with the third just released on the streamer last week and the fourth still in production ahead of a premiere next year.
