Netflix, SK Global Entertainment, filmmakers Jon M. Chu and Nattawut ‘Baz’ Poonpiriya are teaming for a film about the the successful operation in Thailand last year to rescue a group of boys and their coach from a flooding cave.
The true story tale deals with a soccer team’s 12 teammates and coach who were trapped for two weeks inside of the flooded Tham Luang caves near Chiang Mai. The world was riveted by the news of the Thai cave rescue and a tragic human drama transformed into an inspirational story.
Chu will co-direct alongside Poonpiriya. 13 Thumluang Company Limited granted Netflix and SK Global rights to the saga. John Penotti and Lance Johnson will produce. Numerous other films about the rescue have either already wrapped, such as indie film “The Cave,” or are in the works like a Universal Pictures entry.
