It’s official, “Longmire” will continue. After months of talks with Warner Horizon Television, popular SVOD service Netflix has confirmed that they’ve picked up A&E’s contemporary western crime drama series for a fourth season.
A&E axed the series in August, despite the show being the network’s most-watched original scripted series. The cancellation was said to be due to the show’s fanbase skewing older, not good for an advertiser-reliant network like A&E but not a problem at all for a subscriber service like Netflix which cares more about overall viewership numbers and customer satisfaction with content.
In a statement, Netflix original content VP Cindy Holland says: “When Warner Horizon Television came to us with the idea for a new season of Longmire, we were intrigued because the series is so unique, and consistently great. We are thrilled to help continue Walt Longmire’s story for his large and passionate following.”
The new season will premiere on the streaming service in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand in 2015.
