In its first cancellation of a Marvel series, Netflix has swung the axe on “Iron Fist” after two seasons. The announcement comes one month after the second season was released on the service.
“Iron Fist” was the least liked of the four original ‘Defenders’ shows with critical reception for the first season famously brutal, but it was reportedly a popular title on Netflix. The second season scored only mildly better reviews but did end setting up a promising potential third season – one that will now not come to fruition.
In a statement to Deadline, the streaming giant says: “Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners. We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”
No specific reasons were cited for the sudden cancellation, and Netflix doesn’t release viewership information.
