Netflix has boarded the $12 million spy thriller “The Angel” from Israeli helmer Ariel Vromen.
Based on Uri Bar-Joseph’s bestselling novel, the true story tale deals with arguably the most famous spy in the history of the Middle East – high-ranking Egyptian official Ashraf Marwan.
Marwan became a spy for Israel despite being the son-in-law of former Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser and close adviser of his successor, Anwar Sadat.
Marwan Kenzari, Toby Kebbell, Sasson Gabai, Waleed Zuaiter, Mickey Leon, Ori Pfeffer and Maisa Abd Elhadi co-star in the film which will be shot in Arabic, Hebrew and English.
Simon Istolainen and Antoine Stioui will produce and filming kicks off this month in London before moving to Bulgaria, and Morocco later this summer ahead of a 2018 global premiere.
