Netflix Aims To Pick Up David Ayer’s “Bright”

Netflix is reportedly close to landing the rights to Max Landis’ spec script “Bright” with Will Smith and Joel Edgerton set to star and “Suicide Squad” helmer David Ayer on board to direct.

Netflix looks to have beaten out the likes of Sony and Warner Bros. Pictures for the project, the latter the reported front-runner until deal-making stalled. Deals are still being worked out though.

The story is set to be in the vein of Ayer’s “End of Watch” but taking place in a world where Orcs and fairies live among humans. It also will not be set in the present day.

The aim is to get in production later this year before Ayer and Smith re-team on a “Suicide Squad” sequel which aims to shoot in 2017.
