In the first of a two-picture deal, director Neil LaBute (“Lakeview Terrace,” “The Wicker Man”) is set to direct the Chris Rock-led remake of the 2007 British comedy “Death at a Funeral” for Screen Gems reports Variety.
The American-set “Death at a Funeral”, which was written by Rock and Aeysha Carr, revolves around a dysfunctional family that gathers for the patriarch’s funeral. Tensions rise and old conflicts are uncovered.
Rock and LaBute previously teamed on the black comedy “Nurse Betty”. The other film of the deal is Nina Coleman’s romantic comedy “Here Comes the Sun” though story details are under wraps.
