Need for Speed 2 In The Works

The Chinese backers of “Transformers: Age of Extinction” are moving forward with a sequel to last year’s film adaptation of the best-selling video game series “Need for Speed”.

Electronic Arts is teaming with China Movie Channel Program Centre, Jiaflix Enterprises and 1905 Pictures for the project which plans to use Chinese actors in significant roles along with China as the location for the majority of its shoot.

There’s a catch though – they have yet to secure rights to a sequel, rights that DreamWorks currently holds. In fact talks have not yet begun, according to a studio representative, but negotiations are expected to take place soon as they aim to begin production later this year.

Yin Cao, chairman of China Movie Channel says in a statement: “We are excited to work with EA, one of the world’s most recognized creative companies. We are also delighted that much of ‘Need for Speed 2’ would be filmed in China, and we believe it will include much more Chinese talent and elements.”

The first film cost $66 million to make and grossed $203 million worldwide with one-third of it coming from China.
