The major network upfronts take place the week after next which means the fates of their various series that haven’t been either renewed or canceled yet, those dubbed ‘on the bubble’, have to be decided in the next few days.
NBC swung the axe today on its “Wizard of Oz” re-interpretation “Emerald City”. Stuck in years of development and finally being released to little critical fanfare or ratings, the show has already wrapped its first season so there aren’t any further episodes to air. The scrapping follows on from the recent axing of “Powerless” from their schedule.
Two new shows though look like they might fill the gap – “Rise” starring Josh Radnor and “For God and Country” starring Mike Vogel and Anne Heche have both been picked up to series.
“Rise” follows an English teacher who takes over his school’s drama department and changes the lives of his students. ‘God’ is a pro-military family drama along the lines of “Over There”.
