NBC is reportedly at work on a modern TV remake of Joel Schumacher’s 1985 Brat Pack starrer “St. Elmo’s Fire” with Josh Berman (“Drop Dead Diva,” “The Mob Doctor”) attached to pen the script and executive produce the hourlong drama series.
The original film followed a group of close friends and Georgetown University graduates struggling with career, commitment and the responsibilities of adulthood post-college.
Produced for a budget of $10 million, it made $38 million domestically and starred the likes of Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy and Mare Winningham. John Parr penned the theme song “Man in Motion”.
Chris King will also executive produce the series which studio Sony Pictures Television is producing. ABC attempted to adapt the film ten years ago into a series, that version had Topher Grace, Dan Bucatinsky and Jamie Tarses attached with Bucatinsky penning the script.
