Yet another film is making the transition to TV, this time it’s NBC who have given a script commitment with a hefty penalty for a TV series based on the 1993 Clint Eastwood thriller “In The Line Of Fire”.
The original film starred Eastwood as a Secret Service agent who, after a fall from grace, gets the chance to redeem himself when a rogue CIA hitman (John Malkovich) threatens to assassinate the president.
The series, written by Carol Mendelsohn and Josh Berman who previously worked together on “CSI”, will team the agent with a female partner. Together the pair investigate cases in weekly episodes, while engaged simultaneously in a twisted cat-and-mouse with the would-be assassin over the course of the season/series.
Mendelsohn, Berman, Gail Katz and Julie Weitz will executive produce for Sony Pictures TV. Wolfgang Petersen’s original film was a hit, grossing $187 million worldwide and nabbing 3 Oscar nominations including best script and supporting actor.
