NBC has handed out a pilot order for a new TV series sequel to 1999’s “Cruel Intentions” film.
That film, a modern re-imagining of “Dangerous Liasons,” followed the beautiful and cunning Kathryn Merteuil (Sarah Michelle Gellar), her stepbrother Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe) and the sweet virgin Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon) who becomes the subject of a wager between the two.
In the series, the now older Kathryn vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey, Sebastian and Annette’s son. Upon discovering his late father’s legacy in a journal, the son is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined.
The original film’s writer-director Roger Kumble and producer Neal H. Moritz return for the series which is also being produced by Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross who are behind a recent musical parody of the film which saw the movie’s four central stars checking it out.
Kumble, Ross and Rosin will pen the script and Kumble is attached to direct the pilot.
