NBC Cancels Its “Coach” Series Revival

NBC has changed its mind and will not be proceeding with a revival of its classic sitcom “Coach” starring Craig T. Nelson.

Given a straight-to-series thirteen-episode order this March and slated for a midseason debut, Nelson was set to reprise his role as Coach Hayden Fox in the series which would serve as a sequel to rather than a reboot of the original.

Currently mid-way through production, THR indicates early work on the show was only garnering mixed reviews internally and creative issues have now led to a change of heart by the network.

Debuting in 1989, the original series ran nine seasons on ABC for 198 episodes. The new “Coach” was one several revival series set to debut in coming months including “The X-Files” event series sequel on Fox, NBC’s “Heroes Reborn” and Netflix’s “Fuller House”.
