NatGeo Plans Series Based On New Crichton

Two days ago came a surprise announcement. A nearly complete manuscript by “Jurassic Park” and “Rising Sun” author Michael Crichton, who died eight years ago, has been found as is set to be published by Harper Collins next year under the title “Dragon Teeth”.

Today came an even bigger surprise – National Geographic Channel announced that it is developing the book as a limited event series with “Justified” showrunner Graham Yost and Bruce C. McKenna penning the script.

The story follows a 1878 race in the American West between rival paleontologists on the hunt for dinosaur bones. Amblin Television, Sony Pictures Television and CrichtonSun are attached to produce the project which is being eyed for a global launch.

The series is one of several scripted works underway at the channel, the others being “Mars,” “Genius” and “The Long Road Home”. Also in the works are numerous documentary series and films which involve the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese, Katie Couric and Kathryn Bigelow in producing capacities.
