Nate Parker To Adapt Fenn’s “Carry On”

Walden Media has pre-emptively acquired screen rights to ESPN producer Lisa Fenn’s upcoming inspirational memoir “Carry On” and has hired “The Birth of A Nation” writer/director/star Nate Parker to adapt it.

Fenn is an Emmy-winning features producer for ESPN and the book deals with her 2009 return to her Cleveland hometown to chase a story on two disabled wrestlers (one legally blind, the other without legs) who attended an impoverished public high school there.

She formed a bond with the two young men that became so profound that she dedicated the next six years of her life to ensuring their success and well being – one graduating from college, the other winning a Bronze Medal in the 2012 ParaOlympic Games.

The project is Parker’s first since “The Birth of A Nation” took the top prize and made a record-breaking $17.5 million deal at Sundance in January.
