Marking his first project since the scandal that collapsed the awards chances of “The Birth of a Nation,” filmmaker Nate Parker has been set to direct the LAPD detective drama “Black & Blue” for M.B Entertainment.
The story is based on the life of unsung LAPD detective Ralph Waddy, who died last year. Waddy was involved in the capture of Charles Manson and his followers along with ‘Skid Row Slasher’ Vaughn Orrin Greenwood. He was also with the LAPD during the Watts riots in 1965, Robert Kennedy’s assassination in 1968 and the rise of the Black Panther Party.
Parker is rewriting Jim McGrath’s script. Steven Jensen, Darren Enenstein, Shondrella Avery, Adam R. Sanders, and Lenny Rosenberg will produce while Avery will also act in the film. Shooting will kick off in July in Los Angeles.
