Last year came a quote from Marvel’s CCO Joe Quesada which seemed to suggest that the rights to their Namor the Sub-Mariner character had reverted back to the studio after being stuck at Universal for years.
This suggested the fish man may finally make it to the big screen in the near future. This week, a new report from Reel News Hawaii seems to indicate that the project is going forward and will be shot at a new Marvel studio in Oahu – a facility where part of the upcoming “Inhumans” event series will be shot.
There's buzz around the island that two rival productions could be swimming on our waters. "Aquaman" & "Submariner". Fingers crossed! pic.twitter.com/1WLbZkWJAN

It’s surprising news as, before this point, there’s been no word on a Namor film being in the works. In the comics Namor is a mutant, but with FOX still retaining the rights to the use of that term in Marvel films, could the upcoming “Inhumans” series include Namor as a character and one of their own?
Rival DC’s similar hero “Aquaman” is also rumored to be using Hawaii for some location shooting. A brief video has emerged today of actor Jason Momoa doing some sword fight rehearsal for his role as the one and only King of Atlantis in the DCEU comic adaptation. Filmed at 87Eleven Action Design’s studio, it appears Aquaman will be taking on two other sword-wielding adversaries in the James Wan-directed film.
