Aaron Pederson will reprise his iconic role of Aboriginal Australian Detective Jay Swan in an event series spin-off of Ivan Sen’s acclaimed 2013 murder-mystery thriller “Mystery Road” and its sequel “Goldstone”.
Also titled “Mystery Road,” the new six-part television series will see his character team-up with Oscar nominee Judy Davis.
In the series, Swan is assigned to investigate the mysterious disappearance of two young farm hands on an outback cattle station – one is a local Indigenous footy hero and the other a backpacker.
Swan’s investigation uncovers a past injustice that threatens the fabric of the whole community. Davis will play a local police officer named Emma James.
Sen isn’t helming the series, that’s the job of filmmaker Rachel Perkins (“Bran Nue Dae,” “Radiance,” “Jasper Jones”). Bunya Productions, Screenwest, Screen Australia, the WA Regional Film Fund and Create NSW are financing and producing.
Filming will commence in Kununurra in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia next month and the series is set to premiere on the ABC next year. If you haven’t seen the original films, check out a trailers below:
