Mutation Thriller “Splice” Gets Wide Release?

Vincenzo Natali’s talked about mutation thriller “Splice” looks to be going where few Sundance film entries have gone before – to a wide Summer release window.

Deadline Hollywood reports that Joel Silver’s Dark Castle label is in the last stages of picking up North American distribution rights to project which would get a release on nearly 3,000 screens around mid-Summer (June 4th says Box-Office Mojo).

The deal also includes a substantial marketing commitment up to as much as $40 million for the property, a modern day Frankenstein style story of two genetic scientists (Adrien Brody, Sarah Polley) who create a semi-humanoid life.

Sony Worldwide Acquisitions Group was apparently in previous discussions to pick up the film.
