Actor Patrick Stewart (“X-Men,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation”) will reteam with scribe John Logan (“Star Trek: Nemesis,” “The Aviator,” The Last Samurai,” Gladiator”) for a new adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic “The Merchant Of Venice”.
Stewart will produce and star in a version set in 20th century Las Vegas. Logan hated the play but Stewart spent time “arguing the contrary” according to The Argus.
At that point Stewart says “He said, Would you like it if I started working on a screen project for nothing?’ He earns about $2 million a project, so I thought it was a decent offer. It is a startling way of doing the play; it is about money and sex and love and corruption.”
