STX Entertainment is planning a film about the rivalry between Harry Houdini and psychic Margery Crandon, better known as “The Witch of Lime Street”.
Andres Muschietti (“Mama”) will develop, direct and produce the mystery thriller which will be based on David Jaher’s book “The Witch of Lime Street: Seance, Seduction and Houdini in the Spirit World.”
The story chronicles the rivalry during the 1920s, a time when in the wake of WW1 there were plenty of efforts to communicate with the dead via self-proclaimed psychics. Famed illusionist Houdini and a panel of investigative experts debunked fake spiritualists and embarked on a quest to reveal Crandon as a charlatan.
Jaher himself will adapt the script while Barbara Muschietti will produce.
