Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller, Max Minghella and Emma Booth will star in the counterculture dramedy “Hippie Hippie Shake” for Universal Pictures and Working Title reports the trades.
Based on Richard Neville’s book, the story uses a famous obscenity trial involving the Australian satirical magazine Oz as a metaphor for a journey through the swinging ’60s in London.
The publication was moved to London, where Neville (Murphy) and his cohorts became the defendants in the longest obscenity trial in English legal history after a sexually explicit issue aroused the ire of the Obscene Publications Squad.
Beeban Kidron (“Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason”) is set to direct from a screenplay by Lee Hall (“Billy Elliot”). Shooting is scheduled to begin in the fall in London.
