Though the final decision will be based on finding the right person for the role, it looks like the upcoming “The Mummy” reboot at Universal might feature a female titular antagonist.
The story is set in the modern day and there are two options on the table – one that would feature a female monster, and one that would feature a male. Casting is expected to happen in the next couple of months which is when the decision will be made about which way to proceed.
Boris Karloff and Arnold Vosloo played the previous on-screen ‘Mummies’ in the 1932 original and 1999 remake respectively. Director Alex Kurtzman and writer Jon Spaihts are developing the latest incarnation of the property which is currently on track for a March 24th 2017 release and is the first of a proposed series of interconnected monster films.
