Much Of “Gotti” Opening Weekend Was MoviePass

Ticket subscription service MoviePass reportedly accounted for 40% of the dismal $1.67 million opening weekend for the John Travolta-led mob drama “Gotti” which made headlines this weekend due to its 0% Rotten Tomatoes score.

MoviePass reportedly took a stake in the reported $10 million budgeted feature which has been in the works for much of the past seven years – ultimately acquiring the film’s production company Emmett Furla Oasis Films and marketing the film heavily to its subscribers.

MoviePass also accounted for roughly 25%-35% of the far more impressive four screen $135K opening weekend haul of the critically acclaimed “American Animals” which they partly bought out of Sundance. The stock price for MoviePass’ parent company, Helios & Matheson, is in the gutter and closed at $0.34 on Friday.
