The final batch of episodes haven’t aired yet, but MTV is already moving forward with a rebooted take on its long-running teen supernatural drama “Teen Wolf”.
The network is reportedly in early talks with creator and showrunner Jeff Davis to turn the property into a potential anthology series with a rebooted take boasting a largely new cast in a new setting.
Davis and MTV also plan to continue the show’s current narrative in podcast form after the series wraps its run this summer. Said podcast would precede the new series which they’re taking they’re time with to develop and won’t hit until later with at least a year break before the new one even begins casting or production.
MTV president Chris McCarthy indicates to the trades in comments that would suggest the podcast will fill in the time gap between the end of the old series and the start of the new. He tells The Live Feed:
“These characters and these stories have hit a peak. We are talking with Jeff about how do we actually keep that franchise alive. And the beauty of the evolution of media is you can see the series going on through a series of podcasts and then see a resurrection of a new class in a couple years.”
It’s also indicated there could be some returning characters in the new series. The series launched in 2011 has ten more episodes remaining and will reach the 100-episode milestone by the end of its run.
