They’ve considered the script, and now MTV has officially given the green light to a ten episode, first season TV series adaptation of Terry Brooks’ best-selling “Shannara” fantasy novels.
Over two dozen books have been penned in the series which is set several millennia after the destruction of our civilization. The descendants of the Shannara family are empowered with ancient magic and continuously reshape the future of the world.
Producers plan to base the show’s first season on the second book “The Elfstones Of Shannara”. The project was first announced to be in development late last year and at the time Jon Favreau was slated to direct and “Smallville” creators Al Gough and Miles Millar to write.
Whilst the show has now officially scored a series order, it has lost Favreau as director of the opening episodes due to scheduling conflicts. Instead, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” director Jonathan Liebesman in coming aboard to direct first two episodes and will executive produce.
Favreau remains onboard as executive producer alongside Gough, Miller, Brooks and Dan Farah.
