After just two episodes, MTV’s highly controversial remake of British series “Skins” is already in danger of being cancelled reports Fox News.
With various major sponsors like Taco Bell, Wrigley, Subway, Foot Locker, L’Oreal and Schick having pulled their ads from the show, MTV faces losses of up to $2 million per episode.
3.3 million viewers tuned in to the “Skins” series premiere last week, a number that dropped to just 1.6 million viewers for the second episode. MTV however claims it’s sticking with the show.
Their so-called insider says “Skins is definitely in danger of being cancelled, if the ratings aren’t great. And MTV is not going to risk losing advertisers over one show.”
The same source claims Bryan Elsley, the creator of the original UK series, was “highly skeptical about translating this for the American audience. He was worried it would get this kind of reaction. It took a lot of wooing and hand-holding from MTV network execs to convince him that it would work in the U.S.”
