No surprise here. Three months after its run ended, MTV has cancelled the American remake of the British racy teen drama series “Skins” says The International Business Times.
“‘Skins’ is a global television phenomenon that, unfortunately, didn’t connect with a US audience as much as we had hoped. We admire the work that the series’ creator Bryan Elsley did in adapting the show for MTV, and appreciate the core audience that embraced it” said the network in a statement.
The show suffered a sharp ratings decline after its premiere, dropping from 3.3 million for the pilot to 1.2 million for the finale. Along with dropping advertisers, the show received a bunch of negative publicity from parental groups outraged at its frank portrayal of teenage sex.
The UK version meanwhile has been renewed for a sixth season to air early next year.
