Producers Bill Pohlad (“The Tree of Life”) and John Wells (“ER”) are teaming for a drama based on a personal and professional story about former Beach Boys producer-singer Brian Wilson says The Los Angeles Times.
The pair have acquired life rights from Wilson and wife Melinda, and have hired “I’m Not There” scribe Oren Moverman to pen the script.
Wilson was the creative and influential driving force of the Beach Boys along with battling all sorts of personal demons including substance abuse and a mental illness. After returning to health, he has cut several new albums.
Rather than retracing the musician’s entire life, they plan to focus on specific eras as Pohlad has “no interest in making a biopic”. Rights to many of Wilson’s songs have been secured.
