“Most Beautiful Island” Wins SXSW Fest

The South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW) has awarded its top prizes to Ana Asensio’s narrative feature “Most Beautiful Island” and Jairus McLeary and Gethin Aldous’ documentary “The Work”.

“Most Beautiful Island,” a New York-set thriller, is the directing debut of Spanish TV actress Asensio. “The Work” takes place at a group therapy retreat with convicts at Folsom Prison.

The jury gave a special recognition to “The Strange Ones” for James Freedson-Jackson’s breakthrough performance and to the ensemble cast of “A Bad Idea Gone Wrong”. They also gave out nods to Miao Wang’s “Maineland” for Excellence in Observational Cinema, and Nanfu Wang’s “I Am Another You” for Excellence in Documentary Storytelling.
