Mortal Kombat Casts Scorpion Shang Tsung

Chin Han (“The Dark Knight,” “Skyscraper”) is set to play Shang Tsung and Hiroyuki Sanada (“Avengers: Endgame,” “Sunshine”) will play Scorpion in the upcoming “Mortal Kombat” film reboot at New Line.

The two join a quickly filling out cast that includes Joe Taslim (Sub Zero), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Josh Lawson (Kano), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Mehcad Brooks (Jackson ‘Jax’ Bridges), Sisi Stringer (Mileena) and Lewis Tan.

Shang Tsung is a sorcerer and shapeshifter from Outworld who absorbs the souls of those he defeats. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa played him in the previous 1995 film where he served as the main antagonist. Scorpion is an undead ninja warrior in yellow who can shoot retractable chains and grapples from his hands to pull his opponents in.

Greg Russo penned the current version of the screenplay for the project which is slated to begin filming shortly in South Australia ahead of a March 5th 2021 release.
