Morgan Rewrites Howard’s “Heart of the Sea”

Oscar-nominated scribe Peter Morgan (“The Queen,” “Frost/Nixon”) has come onboard Ron Howard’s “In The Heart Of The Sea” film adaptation at Warner Bros and Village Roadshow Pictures.

The story is an adaptation of the Nathaniel Philbrick high-seas drama. Charles Leavitt penned the original draft of the script, and Morgan recently joined the project to “work extensively with Howard on some redrafts”.

The story follows the Nantucket whaling ship the Essex, which was stalked and ultimately destroyed by a sperm whale in 1820. Stranded thousands of miles from home, the crew struggled to survive with only eight ultimately rescued. The incident was the inspiration for Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick.”

Chris Hemsworth, Ben Whishaw, Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, Benjamin Walker and Tom Holland star. Filming begins in the UK on September 10th
