Morgan Freeman is set to take on the role of former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell in the biopic “Powell” at Hyde Park Entertainment and Revelations Entertainment.
The story is set during the respected Army general’s tenure as Secretary of State in the George W. Bush White House. Powell initially opposed the U.S.’ invasion of Iraq, not believing dictator Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.
But he capitulated to hawkish voices and made a now-infamous case for war to the UN Security Council, even as the evidence he presented was later discredited. The script tells of the lead up to his UN presentation.
Reginald Hudlin (“Marshall”) will direct the drama from a script by Ed Whitworth. Ashok Amritraj and Lori McCreary will produce.
