Production on the Patty Jenkins-directed solo “Wonder Woman” movie kicks off in a few weeks, and only some basic details known about the film are known at this point.
Gal Gadot and Chris Pine are set to star, and the film is targeting a June 23rd 2017 release date. Beyond that though everything has been rumor – from the amount of Themyscira action in the film to the time periods in which events unfold.
New rumors today come from JoBlo with a report that clears up some of those lingering questions and adds a few new bits of information to the mix. They say the film is set primarily across two time periods – a small part of it in World War I, and most of it in contemporary times but a few months before the events of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” – sounds like it’s around the same time period the “Suicide Squad” film is set in.
The thrust of the film? Steve Trevor and Wonder Woman must stop Circe and Ares from starting World War III in the present day. The tone is said to be mythological, this being “the Thor of the DCCU”. This means we’ll see things like an army of winged demons and Circe becoming a monster. The WWI scenes will deal with Diana’s initial defeat of Ares, he then serves as a puppet master behind the scenes with Circe doing his bidding in the present day scenes.
Ben Affleck’s Batman will reportedly cameo in two spots in the film – one point during the middle of the film, and during the film’s coda where “they establish the relationship that brings her into Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” The site also claims the invisible jet is in the film, but only a little bit. Its job will be primarily to get Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor off Paradise Island.
“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” opens in March next year.
