More details about CBS’ upcoming “Supergirl” TV series have arrived, and it looks as if some major characters from the “Superman” franchise are set to be involved.
TV Line has scored a casting breakdown detailing four supporting characters who will all be series regulars in the show, and quite a few of these names you will be familiar with from the comics or screen adaptations of Superman such as “Smallville” and “Lois and Clark”:
Cat Grant – A 40-something woman of any ethnicity who created a media conglomerate called CatCo. Kara is working as a personal assistant to her.
Jimmy Olsen – A photographer for CatCo. This version isn’t a geek, rather a smart, worldly and attractive alpha male whom Kara crushes on.
Winslow ‘Wynn’ Schott – A twenty something tech genius and Kara’s neighbour. He works as a programmer for CatCo, and has a crush on Kara.
Hank Henshaw – A senior agent of the DEO (a Men in Black style group). When Supergirl reveals herself, he’s worried that her otherworldly abilities pose a threat to humankind.
If the last two sound familiar, the characters are better known by their villain names in the comics – Toyman and Cyborg Superman. Whether we’ll see those transformations on the show? Who knows.
Greg Berlanti (“Arrow,” “The Flash”) and Ali Adler (“No Ordinary Family”) are writing the series and will executive produce alongside Sarah Schechter.
