Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars” panel hits in a few hours with lots of new details about both “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and hopefully a few about “Star Wars: Rogue One” expected to be revealed by the attendees.
Before that though, new rumors tying back to old ones about the Gareth Edwards-directed ‘Rogue One’ stand alone film have emerged. As we already know, the story will follow a band of Rebels (led by Felicity Jones’ character) who steal the first Death Star’s plans ahead of events in ‘A New Hope’. We also know that Darth Vader will be involved in some way.
Now, Bloody Disgusting reports that the character Ben Mendelsohn has been linked to is an unnamed Moff and serves as chief adversary in the film. He hires a team of bounty hunters to “quietly retrieve” the missing Death Star plans – a team that includes Boba Fett, Bossk, Dengar, Zuckuss, 4LOM, IG-88, and Cad Bane.
This would explain those early rumors of why ‘Rogue One’ was frequently thought to involve bounty hunters in some capacity, having the Rebels trying to not only escape the Empire but a band of mercenaries specifically after them would up the stakes. The report also explains Vader’s presence, him joining the hunt when he learns the plans have been stolen.
“Star Wars: Rogue One” is slated for release December 16th 2016.
