At this point it’s getting easier to announce who from the previous Marvel Cinematic Universe films will NOT be returning for the upcoming two-film “Avengers” saga which is currently filming in Atlanta.
This week “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” actresses Pom Klementieff (Mantis) and Karen Gillan (Nebula) have both confirmed via social media that they are on (or headed to) the set. Much of the ‘Guardians’ cast seem to be involved in this early part of the shoot, same with new Spider-Man Tom Holland.
Others, such as Elisabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) aren’t due in Atlanta for a while yet. Peter Dinklage, who was recently cast as a villain, was seen in New York last week seemingly preparing for the shoot. Vin Diesel’s Groot is expected to show up, and the actor recently told MTV that he has actually discussed the possibility of a Groot spin-off film with ‘Guardians’ director James Gunn:
“It’s something that James Gunn has talked about and something that I knew he would love to do. Sure, I think it could be very interesting. I think it’s inevitable. That character is so enigmatic and he was already one of the most unique characters in the Marvel universe, and I think what Marvel has done, and what James Gunn has done to realize that character, has exceeded beyond anyone’s expectations. It’s just such an interesting character and there’s so much to learn about him. I’d love to go back to his planet and learn more about him, and I think the world would too.”
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” opens in May this year, while “Avengers: Infinity War” is slated to premiere in May next year with filming on it and a fourth “Avengers” film expected to continue well through into the Summer.
