Launching the trailer that premiered online last night, Paramount Pictures held a major 50th Anniversary Star Trek Fan Event last night on the studio lot in Los Angeles where a couple of key reveals about “Star Trek Beyond” and the overall franchise were made.
First up ‘Beyond’ will have its premiere at Comic-Con International: San Diego in July at special outdoor IMAX screening, complete with a live musical performance by the San Diego Symphony orchestra. At the same time the film will pay tribute to the franchise’s anniversary with the inclusion of fifty alien species in all shapes and sizes in the film. With the crew scattered after a violent attack, the film will reportedly involve team-ups of different characters – namely Bones and Spock are on their own, as is Kirk and Chekhov.
They also announced that all litigation against the Star Trek fan film ‘Axanar’ will be dropped over the next few weeks with filmmaker Justin Lin being the one who stressed to Paramount the importance of co-operation with the Star Trek fan community. The event also included a special new poster that pays homage to Bob Peak’s iconic “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” one-sheet design, that you can see below.
