“Moonlight” star Ashton Sanders, who played teenage Chiron in the Best Picture winner, is in final negotiations to take on the lead role of Bigger Thomas in the film adaptation of Richard Wright’s 1940 novel “Native Son”.
Additionally “Jurassic World” and “Love, Simon” actor Nick Robinson is also in talks to join the cast along with Margaret Qualley, KiKi Layne and Bill Camp. The original novel followed a twenty-year-old African American living in poverty on Chicago’s South Side in the 1930s, while the new film will shift the action to the present day.
A24 has also just acquired worldwide rights to the work with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks adapting the script and acclaimed conceptual artist Rashid Johnson making his feature directing debut. Cinematographer Matthew Libatique (“Black Swan”) is also onboard, while Matthew Pernicaro and Michael Sherman will produce.
