Monumental Pictures turning the landmark decision of the legal case Roe v. Wade in 1973 into a major film.
Oscar-nominated short film scribe Jen Majka (“The Bigger Picture”) will pen the feature about the battle of 26 year-old Sarah Weddington and her journey from a small town Texas lawyer to ushering through the biggest U.S. Supreme Court decision of the century – a ruling that cleared the way for women to have safe and legal abortions.
The case challenged a Texan law that allowed abortion only to save the life of the mother, and they won with a 7-2 majority – paving the way for women’s rights throughout the nation.
Alison Owen and Debra Hayward will produce. The company is also developing film adaptations of Jackie Collins’ Lucky Santangelo Series, and a biopic of Victorian mathematician Ada Lovelace.
