“Moonlight” and “Hidden Figures” actress Janelle Monae is reportedly the top choice to play one of the three new female leads in a reboot of the “Charlie’s Angels” franchise at Sony Pictures.
The Tracking Board broke the casting talk at the same time as it has been reported that “Narcos” creators Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro have been brought in to rewrite the script for the new film which Evan Spiliotopoulos (“Beauty and the Beast”) previously worked on.
No cast members are officially in place for the new film as, with the script still unfinished, official offers aren’t expected to be handed out for a while. That said, Sony has already reportedly earmarked a June 7th 2019 release for the film.
The project will mark Elizabeth Banks’ second directorial outing, following her successful debut with “Pitch Perfect 2” which took in $287.4 million worldwide from a $29 million budget. Banks is also producing with Max Handelman.
