The studios are signing up talented women left and right today with a number of first-look production deals announced with various actresses and creative artists.
Singer and actress Janelle Monae and her Wondaland Pictures label have scored a first-look production agreement with Universal Pictures. The pair aims to develop ‘multi-genre content with an emphasis on championing underrepresented voices and groundbreaking perspectives’. Monae stars in two upcoming Universal films: “Welcome to Marwen” and “Harriet”.
Next up, “Game of Thrones” actress Natalie Dormer will develop a slate of scripted projects under a new first-look deal she has signed with Fremantle, including the TV drama series “Vivling” about legendary “Gone with the Wind” actress Vivien Leigh. Dormer and Fremantle previously teamed for the recent “Picnic at Hanging Rock” mini-series.
Finally, Amazon Studios has set a first-look pact with Animal PIctures, a newly formed production banner headed by SNL alum Maya Rudolph and actress Natasha Lyonne. The agreement calls for the pair to develop original series for the streaming giant.
