30-year-old Jason Momoa (“Baywatch Hawaii,” “Stargate: Atlantis”) is apparently locked to play the titular role in “Conan” for Lionsgate and Millenium Films says Deadline Hollywood.
Marcus Nispel is directing the reinvention of Robert E. Howard’s “Conan the Barbarian” and shot a few trial scenes that allowed Momoa to wield a sword and behave very Schwarzenegger-like. Momoa beat out “Twilight” star Kellan Lutz for the role.
Meanwhile Latino Review reports that an offer has been put out to Mickey Rourke to play Conan’s father Corin.
The site also reports that the ‘third star’ that was alluded to in the initial reports as testing for ‘Conan’ was “Supernatural” star Jared Padalecki who previously worked for Nispel in last year’s “Friday the 13th” remake.
Filming is scheduled to kick off March 15th in Bulgaria.
