Miyazaki’s “Kiki” Gets A Live-Action Remake?

Twitch has posted an unconfirmed but fascinating rumor – that a live-action remake of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s popular 1989 kids fantasy tale “Kiki’s Delivery Service” is in the works.

The story follows a young witch who leaves her family and travels to the big city on a mandatory year away from home to prove her independence.

She ends up using her magical powers to support herself by operating a broomstick powered courier service. The film was based on Kaidono Eiko’s novel which has since spawned both manga and a stage musical.

The report also says that “The Grudge” director Shimizu Takashi has come on board to direct the big budget project. The work itself, though loved by kids, is one of “Spirited Away” and “My Neighbor Totoro” director Miyazaki’s least lauded films.
