Peruvian director Claudia Llosa won the top prize of the Golden Bear for “The Milk of Sorrow” at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival.
‘Sorrow’ explores the legacy of the Peruvian government’s decades-long war with Shining Path guerillas.
The Silver Bear Jury Prize, the runner-up award, went to more personal dramas Adrian Biniez’s “Gigante” and Maren Ade’s “Everyone Else”.
Oren Moverman and Alessandro Camon’s “The Messenger” starring Woody Harrelson scored best screenplay, while Iranian director Asghar Farhadi won best director for “About Elly”.
Sotigui Kouyate’s performance in “London River” scored him best actor.
